Hey everyone, the Medallion Hunt might be over now, but the Winter Carnival definitely isn't! Take a day to rest up and process what just happened. But then if you start to worry that life is getting back to normal just a little too much, the Winter Carnival Scavenger Hunts are still going on! And with the nice weather coming up this weekend, it will be a great time to get out and explore the city with the North Wind Hunt. Think of it as 30 one clue treasure hunts. Solve the clue, visit that location, do a GPS check in on the Goosechase app, and you won't even have to do any digging! Here is what some people who completed this year's hunt have said:   "I really loved this experience. It definitely got me do some different corners of the city."   "My kids and I all had an awesome time"   "Your clues are great, and it was fun to explore the variety of sites and places St Paul offers. The variety of locations was amazing."   If you're ready to stay indoors for now, we also have the South Wind Hunt which also offers 30 clues to 30 locations. But rather than visit, you'll just need to find the answer to a question once you solve the clue. Or for a harder challenge we have the East Wind hunt which presents you with 12 tricky puzzles to solve to figure out the 12 locations you must visit. Or finally, take the kids and head back to Phalen for our West Wind Hunt. Just saw the craziest thing. If you zoom in on Google maps to where the treasure was found south of the beach house, there is a car parked on the grass!

I was looking over by the beach house on Sunday and there was a guy with a metal detector. I laughed and thought - that isn’t going to help. Well I guess I was wrong. 

Oh, boy!  If it was hidden inside a steel can, you can bet you'll see metal detectors being used next year.  I thought they stopped hiding a metal-detectable treasure long ago.

There is a pier on Round Lake (part of Phalen). This is part of the park where I think the medallion is at, closer to Frost Ave.

"no need to wade" could be referring to a pier.  As someone mentioned earlier, "ripe" in Clue 4 is an anagram for pier. And "catch" in that same line of Clue 4 is a fishing term.

I also thought silver and gold could point to Nevada St.  And, Gustavus Adolphus was known as the father of modern warfare who elevated his country to major military power. That church is right up by Iowa and Hoyt.  Ahhhhh my brain hurts and I am attempting to organize my business taxes to no avail. I guess I just need to head over to Phalen and search since I can't focus today. Happy Hunting, everyone!

I was certain Clues 7 and 8 were references to Phalen. However, I can't get the explanation of clue 6 of the 2019 Hunt out of my head after reading today's clue. Steer, wade, and fade = stockyards, Cattlemen's Hotel, and a barber shop.

Ha, well being in the right park is what matters, however you got there. You might have won my park pool if I had had time to run it this year!

Still, in the Medallion Hunt, you don't have to be original to be right. There are lots of wrong ideas out there that one can buy into. It took me quite a while to get on board with Phalen.

Last night I was thinking cypress hill. Certainly a diamond of ruffrecords. Cypress, Earl, Frank roads. But with fresh eyes and less beer I realized something this morning. 
The last line is important.  Dig a month of snow. Think January is Janus. Literally the god of arched doorways. Can also be beginning and end or even transitions. Like from war to peace.  The clue writer is full of contranyms. Perhaps Janus is their muse. Purposely using clues that fit como and phalen. Now where is the door or arched gate? Or is it gateway trail? 

Alfabob thankyou for the compliment but I am not usually correct. Last year I was early in Silverwood, but I look at many internet sights for different ideas from people. I think visual so I need different input. This year I dug 3 times in Como. It also happens to be closest to my home. I wanted to check out Central and Phalen but never got the chance to dig because of the smash and grab. I am upset about waiting a week to get it fixed. This was more scary than losing my keys when you let me and my collie warm up in your car. I no longer feel safe in medallion hunting. But I am nuts and will probably continue next year.
